The lake is particularly known for its large colony of Purple Martins birds. Lake Murray is one of the largest roosting sites in the country. During the summer months, thousands of these birds migrate to Lake Murray and are most active at daybreak and dusk, they also eat mosquitoes- which is a major plus!
